I couldn't find the thread, but I know there was one previously.

Anyway, went for a quick jaunt last night (rain finally subsided for a bit). And after doing the one-over safety check, I noticed that something was "missing". Yep - that little sleeve at the exit of the cylinder fell off on a previous ride. I never heard a rattle, or noticed it being loose while cleaning, so it must have just "jumped" right off.

So back to Fast Eddy I go, for his milled clamps (that mirror the cylinder cooling fins).

Check your doohickey to make sure it ain't loose (tap it with a screw driver or something).

Heard mine ping on the road a while back. Now the other is hanging off, might just help it on its way. I feel a complaint is needed, the weld are too weak so it is a manufacturers fault.

Both mine broke, but because i read about it here a few years ago i was checking them regularly. I caught both before the second weld broke letting them fall of and had them welded. PITA, and yet another triumph fuck up.

MotorMac - yup. And I had started that one (although my prior issue was the heat shields at the pipe). I had been checking these, but this was only my 2nd ride of the year.

Oh well, another reason to send some money to Fast Eddy.

Lesson is - tap your heat shields (both sets) and listen for any looseness. unfortunately, if the header shields are loose, you might as well swap for Eddy's billet ones.

G'day all

I know this is an old post, but after seven years, my heat shield (on the left side), has disappeared

So I'm now looking for something to replace it. I contacted Fast Eddy about the ones he produced, but he doesn't have any.

He is, however, taking expressions of interest from people who are need of replacement collars.

If there is enough orders, he may then arrange for a production run or some other alternative.

In the meantime , has anyone who lost theirs, come up with a solution?

Cheers and thanks

I can't imagine how, unless it was loose and fell off.

fwiw i check and tighten any accessible bolts, screws, etc every three years...a pita, takes hours but worth it! And she's tight.

...hope that helps.

From what I've seen, they're actually welded on (although not well enough in some cases)

I've noticed others have had theirs replaced under warranty. Unfortunately mine being over seven years old, is well and truly outside of warranty.

Yup, but the header collars up at the flange are welded onto the smaller ID pipe. Recall these are double walled headers. So the chrome outside pipe is larger diameter than that inside. The collar at the transition up by the jugs is welded on. But vibration over time leads them to break.

The hard part is, after losing one, you then have to break off the other one to fit Fast Eddy's collar kit. That, or you have to get a whole new header pipe. Or, if you're lucky, and actually have the busted collar in hand, take it to a weld shop and have it tacked back on. Unfortunately, most of the time you don't "find" it, as it falls off while under way.....

You're right Jamie, in my situation, I must have lost it on a ride. Didn't hear it hitting the road. I searched in all the nooks and crannies around the bike in the forlorn hope that it might have been caught somewhere, but no!

So, now I'm reliant on Fast Eddy's coming up with something or getting a complete left hand header pipe from a wrecker.
